Stories about Sport

Bob Cattell didn’t start writing books for children till he was well over 40. He was working on an old barge at Greenwich which he had converted into a bookshop, called the Bookboat – and he kept being asked for stories on cricket. There weren’t any …so he wrote the first Glory Gardens book.

Apart from writing children’s books he is also a commercial copywriter: writing ads and brochures and websites for clients.

He has been a cricket fan all his life and a supporter of the England team through thick and thin. He also supports Yorkshire, especially for their fast bowlers from Fred Trueman to Tim Bresnan.

He is the author of the bestselling Glory Gardens series about cricket and the Strikers series about football, written with David Ross. He also wrote the Butter-Finger cricket books with John Agard: Butter-Finger, Shine on, Butter-Finger and Big City Butter-Finger.

Bob describes his own cricketing abilities as ‘a left-arm spin bowler who surprises batters with the lack of spin’. He lives in Suffolk.
