Actor – Reece Dinsdale

What a fabulous site!

I was introduced to it by its creator, who is my son’s football coach, of all things. At the same time, and by sheer coincidence, I was about to direct my first TV drama for BBC1 all about a ten year old girl who writes a story for a Christmas show and asks her friend, an old lady with literacy problems, to perform it for her. It all felt ludicrously apt that I should be led to such a creative and informative site at such a time.

Having now completed the drama, and having had to examine all the issues that adults with literacy problems have to face on a daily basis, I cannot stress enough how important it is for young people to be involved with, and be fired up by, the written word. If only such ideas and projects as ‘Lend me your literacy’ had been more commonplace in the past, then I am convinced that the shocking levels of adult literacy that we as a nation are now experiencing could have been greatly reduced.

As an actor (and now sometimes director) I simply cannot imagine a world in which words and books and creative writing play no part. We must do all we can to engage our young people in the simple joys that reading and writing can bring. The written word is the gateway to their education and enlightenment, and it is projects such as ‘Lend me your Literacy’, with its vibrancy and sheer passion and desire to help children along, that play no small part in this process.

Congratulations to all involved!

Headteacher Pannal Primary, Harrogate
Had a look at the site and think its great.
Very easy to navigate. Examples opened easily and were easy to find through the tagging.
I would have used it as a class teacher as I always felt the “published” examples never quite fitted the bill.

Website looks great, clear layout etc…

Well though out, organised and clear.

The site is a great idea and certainly something I will be sharing.
Any plans to incorporate Secondary work.

Education Consultant

Looks like a really interesting project to share students work examples.

Education Resources website
Excellent idea – giving pupils the choice and letting them dictate or lead learning is ace.
